We’re excited to be attending the Wonky Tea Party in aid of Friends of Animals Wales. We’ll cram as much as we can onto the stall, but if you want anything specially made or personalised to collect on the day please let us know asap.
It’s all happening at Tongwynlais Village Hall on 22nd Sept, starting at 11am and ending at 3pm.
Woodwasp’s shop and workshop will be closed from Friday 20th April until Tuesday 8th May as we upgrade some of our equipment.
The Woodwasp shop and workshop will be closed from Saturday 10th December until Wednesday 21st.
When we re-open it may still be possible to arrange collection for our local customers, but will be too late to post products in time for Christmas.
We have just finished setting up in our wooden Craft Folk cabin.
We are close to where we were last time we were here in November; facing Howells, with our backs to the old library. We’re here until December 17th.
It’s rather nice down here today- quite cold but calm and dry. Lots of relaxed people strolling.
We’re making stock and getting ready to attend the CraftFolk market in Cardiff city centre.
We’ll be there from Tuesday 17th December 2015 until Sunday 21st. Trading times are 10am to 5.30pm, closing half an hour earlier on Sunday. We’re not yet sure precisely where we’ll be, but we expect to be in a wooden cabin facing John Lewis, with our back to the Old Library.
We hope to see you there!
Finally, Woodwasp is back in action and the shop is open for business. Thank you all for your patience during a rather sad and difficult few weeks.
We will be having another temporary closure from 22nd October to 29th October 2015.
Unfortunately we’ve had to postpone our planned re-opening due to a family illness.
We hope to be able to re-open by the end of September. Please revisit, or drop us an email if you’d like to be notified when we’re back in action.
We’re sorry if this has caused any of you any inconvenience.
We’re attending another CraftFolk event this weekend in Cardiff Bay. We’ll be in the area near Weatherspoons, Carluccios etc – look out for the red and white striped tents. The stalls will be open from 10 am to 5:30 pm.
At the same time the Harbour Festival is taking place, Cardiff Bay Beach continues at the Oval Basin and on Sunday and Monday we’ll hear the roar of the Welsh Grand Prix of the Sea. Plenty of opportunity for a great day out with lots to see and do.
For more detail, see the CraftFolk website.
We’re excited to report that we’ve managed to get a stall at the Big Cheese Festival in Caerphilly on the weekend of 25th and 26th July.
This festival has been going for eighteen years and keeps getting bigger. We last had a stall there a couple of years ago, and it was a spectacular event; stalls and activities, music, food and mock medieval battles taking over the whole town for the weekend. All this is crowned by the spectacular backdrop of Caerphilly Castle.
Caerphilly Council think there may be as many as 80,000 people attending over the weekend. It won’t be a good time try to navigate Caerphilly’s one-way system, but there are free bus shuttles into town and affordable park and ride arrangements.
Once you get to Caerphilly, entrance to the event is free. We’ll be there in CraftFolk‘s red and white striped tents, we hope to see you.
As I write this, I’m close to half way through engraving a batch of wooden pen boxes for Bryn Jones of Prestige Pens, based near Caernarfon.
Bryn is a wood turner who I met at the Wales Spring Fair in Llandudno. As well as wooden bowls, he makes fabulous wooden pens, turned by hand from a wide variety of native and exotic woods. He sells them at craft events, through shops in North Wales and through his Prestige Pens web site.
Much of the wood he uses has dramatic grain patterns, so every pen is a one-off.
To give his pens the finishing touch, he offers his customers a wooden box to keep them in, engraved with his logo. He seems to be doing well, judging by the number of boxes he’s using!
Laser engraving is a flexible way to mark wooden boxes like these, with the ability to prepare batches as and when needed, or to do small runs of bespoke designs if required.
